Father & daughter die after jeep falls down mountainside

With fatal accidents appearing to become a regular feature of the State, a man and his daughter died when the jeep they were travelling in fell down the mountainside in the Chamoli district on Friday. The accident occurred on the Sutol-Nandanagar motor road. Apart from the man and his daughter who died in the mishap, the driver and a youth were reported to be injured in the accident. The injured duo was take to the community health centre at Nandanagar from where the youth was airlifted to a higher centre due to his serious condition.
According to information from local sources, the Nandanagar police station received information about a Bolero jeep meeting with an accident at about 11 AM near Peri village. The jeep numbered UK11 TA 1293 had fallen about 200 metres down the mountainside on the Sutol-Nandanagar motor road. The police reached the site and found that the driver Govind Singh of Sutol village had fallen out of the vehicle and survived with minor injury. Sutol resident Bharat Singh (42) was found dead on the spot while Alam Singh (24) and Bharat Singh’s daughter Sapna (15) were found to be seriously injured. The two injured persons were taken by a local taxi to the nearest government hospital in Ghat. The teenage girl died while being transported to the hospital while the other injured was referred to a higher centre considering his serious condition. He was airlifted from the Kurud helipad after being administered primary treatment at Nandanagar. According to sources, the steering of the jeep got locked, which led to the accident.
