U’khand to implement UCC from January 2025: CM Dhami

 Uttarakhand is set to create history by becoming the first State in the country to implement the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in January 2025. The State administration has prepared the regulations of the UCC. An announcement regarding this was made by the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami in the meeting of the Uttarakhand Investment and Infrastructure Development Board (UIIDB) held at the State secretariat on Wednesday. He said after the swearing in of the new government in March 22022, the State cabinet in its first meeting had decided to constitute an expert committee for implementing the UCC in the State. He said that a five member committee headed by Justice (retd) Ranjana Prakash Desai was constituted for UCC in the State. Based on the report of the committee the UCC act was passed by the State cabinet on February 7, 2024. The notification for the law was issued on March 12, 2024 after the assent of the President of India.

 The government then constituted a nine member committee headed by former chief secretary Shatrughan Singh for preparing the regulation of the UCC. On October 18 this committee handed over the regulations draft to the CM and now after legal examinations the government is ready to implement the UCC in the State from January 2025.  In the meeting of the UIIDB, the CM directed the officers to provide training to the employees on UCC regulations. He said that public convenience   should be kept in mind and maximum services should be made online.  The CM said that a portal and a mobile App has also been prepared for UCC in the State. The facilities of registration, appeal and others are made available on the App.
