Raturi tells departments to step up work on State action plan on climate change

Chief secretary Radha Raturi chaired a meeting to review the State action plan on climate change on Thursday. While reviewing various aspects, Raturi directed the Agriculture and Horticulture officials to facilitate improvement in the soil quality by encouraging organic farming, enhancing the irrigation capacity, expanding the area used for cultivation of local crops and boosting the access of farmers to loan, insurance and modern machines.

She also stressed on special focus on the use of clean energy. The CS directed the Tourism department to step up research on tourism, hold workshops on climate change, form and adopt sustainable tourism guidelines, ensure cent per cent garbage segregation at tourist spots and adopt innovations like paperless ticket systems.

The Energy department was directed to work for capacity building for energy conservation and also hold workshops for this, hold seminars and trainings on water harvesting and green buildings while also focusing on increasing the number of model energy villages and developing micro-hydro and new solar projects. The Forest department was directed to ensure consistent research on biodiversity and forest conservation while according priority to aspects like policy angles related to construction in mountainous areas and forest conservation, capacity building and focusing on using Pirul for fuel and biomass.
