In a novel initiative, the State Education department is planning to provide residential facilities for the students in the cluster schools. Education minister Dhan Singh Rawat said that the State government is consistently working to strengthen the education system in Uttarakhand and setting up cluster schools is part of the effort. He said that the officers of the department have been asked to make provision in the budget to provide residential facilities to the students in the cluster schools. The minister said that the provision will be included in the budget 2025-26.

He said that in the first phase the facility of residence will be provided to the students in one cluster school each in the five mountainous districts of the State. Residential capacity for 150 students will be developed in each of these cluster schools. Rawat said that at present the State government operates 13 Rajiv Gandhi Navodaya schools, four Rajiv Gandhi residential schools, 19 Subash Chandra Bose residential schools and 39 Kasturba Gandhi girls’ schools in the State.

The minister added that in view of the tough geographic conditions in the mountainous areas, it is necessary to increase the residential facility in the government schools.
