An IT expert K K Pandey said that India is currently going through a phase of technological revolution. “Though Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a global phenomenon it is particularly important in the context of India and it will help the country acquire technological independence aside from protecting our privacy, security, health, education and economy,” he said.

He further said that India is a country with a huge digital population with crores of people using the Internet every day. “Data privacy has become a major concern in recent years. Foreign AI models control our sensitive information which can pose a threat to national security and personal privacy. The indigenous AI models may solve this problem with the Indian rules protecting privacy,” he said.  He further said that more investment is needed to boost indigenous AI under government schemes like Digital India and Atmanirbhar Bharat. He also stressed on its beneficial effects in the health sector. “The rural India is still bereft of the adequate medical facilities and AI-based solutions may bridge the gap between rural and urban health services. For example, AI-powered telemedicine services can provide quality healthcare in remote areas while machine learning can be used to identify diseases and accurately diagnose them. Besides, AI in drug discovery can accelerate the development of new and affordable medicines,” Pandey added.
