With police intensifying drives to curb drug and liquor smuggling across the district ahead of the rural polls, Barkot police arrested three individuals in two separate incidents.
In the first incident, police intercepted two youths near a Shiv temple during routine checking. The accused, Jaswant Singh Rawat alias Golu (22) and Saurabh Chauhan (19) were found in possession of 4.96 grams and 3.50 grams of smack respectively. The total estimated market value of the seized narcotics is around Rs 2.5 lakh.
In another incident, police held one Subhash (35) with illegal English liquor with estimated market value of Rs 25,000.
Cases have been registered under Section 8/21 of the NDPS Act and Section 60 of the Excise Act at Barkot police station. Police said they were inquiring to ascertain whether the trio had criminal backgrounds.
