Lalkuan was awarded in the Promising Swachh Shehar category under the Swachh Survekshan 2024-25 on Thursday. The Lalkuan Nagar Panchayat achieved this position by capitalising on public participation, innovation and improving solid waste management.

Before the Nagar Panchayat election the administrator Paritosh Verma and executive officer Rahul Kumar Singh ensured works like Material Recovery Facilities (MRF) centre, water harvesting plant and other tasks through the local body’s employees while some works were also facilitated through self help groups.

The executive officer informed that in addition to these works, the regular operation of the effluent treatment plant and sewage treatment plant along with other projects aimed at environmental conservation and sanitation were effectively implemented in the city. These measures benefitted Lalkuan as the public voted enthusiastically.

After the Nagar Panchayat elections, the newly formed board focused on turning the sanitation aspect into a public movement through the voting process and public participation. Following the recognition received by Lalkuan, officials said that the Nagar Panchayat chairman Surendra Singh Lotni, councillors, sanitation workers and the local residents who were involved in the local body’s initiative along with the Nagar Panchayat employees made this possible.
