Govt announces reservation status of district Panchayats president

The Panchayati Raj department has declared the much awaited interim reservation status for the posts of the president in the 12 district Panchayats of the State. The voting was held on July 24 and 28 for the three-tier Panchayati Raj bodies in the State and the results were announced on Thursday.
As per the order of the Panchayati Raj secretary, the posts of presidents of district Panchayats of Almora , Dehradun, Pauri, Rudraprayag and Tehri will be reserved for women. Similarly the post of district Panchayat president of Bageshwar has been kept reserved for women of scheduled caste category.
The post of district Panchayat president of Pithoragarh will be reserved for SC category candidates while that of Udham Singh Nagar will be reserved for candidates of backward class. The posts of district Panchayat presidents of Chamoli, Champawat and Uttarkashi have been kept unserved.
The department has invited objections to the reservation status between August 2 to 4 and the objections will be disposed of on August 5. The final publication of the reservation will be done on August 6.
