Heavy rain alert issued for U’kashi & five other districts

A day after heavy rains resulted in a flash flood causing major destruction in the Dharali area of Uttarkashi on Tuesday, the State Meteorological Centre has issued an orange warning (be prepared to take action) regarding the possibility of heavy rain likely to occur at isolated places in Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar, Pithoragarh and Udham Singh Nagar districts on Wednesday.

The centre has also issued a yellow alert (be aware) regarding the possibility of heavy rain likely to occur at isolated places in Dehradun, Nainital, Champawat and Pauri districts. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning/intense to very intense spells of rain are likely to occur at isolated places in all districts of the State today. Apart from this, light to moderate rain/thundershowers are likely to occur at most places in the mountains and Udham Singh Nagar district and at many places in Haridwar district on Wednesday.

The provisional State capital Dehradun is forecast to witness a partly to generally cloudy sky. Few spells of light to moderate rain/thundershowers are likely to occur, of which one or two may be intense/heavy. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be about 30 degrees Celsius and 24 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun today.

Meanwhile, light to moderate rain was reported in various parts of the State on Tuesday with 67 millimetres in Kashipur, 43 millimetres in Sankri, 42.5 millimetres in Berinag, 40.5 millimetres in Champawat, 38 millimetres in Mukteshwar, 36.3 millimetres in Dehradun and 34.4 millimetres in Pantnagar.
