Traffic moves steadily during President’s visit in Doon

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun

The Dehradun police’s well-coordinated traffic management plan which included the closure of 30 schools across the city proved effective on Monday, as President Droupadi Murmu’s visit to the Vidhan Sabha concluded without any major traffic disruptions. Police had diverted several routes across the city and announced silent zones, including the stretch on Rajpur Road from Mussoorie diversion to Brahmakamal Chowk, extending 100 metres on both sides of the road and an area within a 300-metre radius around the Vidhan Sabha. The police had also removed roadside encroachments that often cause jam on roads. The measures were in effect from 10 AM on Sunday until one hour after the President’s departure at around 1 PM on Monday. Though commuters did face some traffic congestion between 9 AM and 12 PM, delays were less than usual during VVIP movements. The Dehradun superintendent of police (Traffic) Lokjeet Singh, who has been appointed as the nodal officer to oversee route diversions and monitor traffic operations during the President’s visit and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s proposed visit, said that the police had prepared a detailed traffic plan to ensure smooth movement for the President while minimising disruption for commuters. He said that the team planned at micro level and it worked as intended. “We plan to ensure similar smooth movement of traffic during the PM’s visit. We have made all necessary preparations,” he said.
