140 assistant professors appointed in govt medical colleges

The Medical Education department has appointed 140 assistant professors recently recruited by the Uttarakhand Medical Services Selection Board (UMSSB) in different government medical colleges of the State. The department appointed the assistant professors after the approval given by the Health minister Dhan Singh Rawat.
The department has appointed 41 assistant professors at Government Doon Medical College, 12 in Government Medical College Haridwar, 33 in Veer Chandra Singh Garhwali Medical College, Srinagar, 28 in Government Medical College Almora and two in the Government Medical College, Rudrapur.
Of the new assistant professors, 15 are appointed in the Anaesthesia department. Similarly seven assistant professors each are appointed in Anatomy and Paediatrics departments, three each in Blood Bank, Radiotherapy and Dermatology and 12 each in Community Medicine and Pathology departments. Nine assistant professors each in Microbiology and Orthopaedic department, eight in Gynaecology, six each in Auto-rihnolaryngology, Biochemistry, Psychiatry and Physiology and four in Ophthalmology department have been appointed. Similarly one assistant professor each has been appointed in Emergency and Forensic medicine departments.
The Health minister said that the Medical Education sector in the State is being developed as per the highest standards. The State government is making consistent efforts to provide modern facilities, equipment and trained faculty in the medical colleges of the State. He said that appointment of 140 new assistant professors in the Government Medical Colleges will remove the paucity of faculty and result in qualitative improvement in medical education, training and research activities. The Health services will also be strengthened by their appointment, he said.
