On the instructions of Dehradun district magistrate Savin Bansal, one of the Quick Response Teams (QRTs) formed in the district to curb black marketing of LPG cylinders recovered 135 commercial gas cylinders from a shop in Lakkarghat area of Rishikesh on Tuesday. A case has been registered against those involved.
According to officials, through the helpline numbers issued by the district administration—1077, 0135-2626066, 2726066, and WhatsApp number 7534826066—a total of 35 complaints related to LPG gas supply were received till 5:00 PM. The Food and Civil Supplies department is taking action on these complaints, officials claimed.
According to the official sources, a resident of Lakkarghat in Rishikesh came under suspicion when he had six LPG cylinder booking slips. This raised doubts in the mind of the gas agency manager. When the manager questioned him further, it was found that the person owned a shop in the area where he had illegally stored 135 commercial gas cylinders. After this discovery, the manager informed the police and the supply officer of the area which resulted in action against the accused.
On the same day, around 12,004 domestic consumers and 136 commercial consumers received gas cylinders. However, there is still a backlog of about 75,000 domestic cylinders. Officials said that enough LPG stock is available and companies have been told to increase supply. The administration is monitoring the situation through a control room under the supervision of additional district magistrate KK Mishra to solve public complaints quickly.
