Additional director general of police (Law and Order) V Murugesan directed that pending cases should be cleared without delay. He issued this and other instructions while chairing a State-level review meeting at the Police Headquarters on Tuesday. He reviewed the verification drive being carried out in the state. He said that more than 1.22 lakh people have been verified since February 15.
The ADG reviewed pending investigations, land fraud cases, ongoing verification drives and missing person cases. He expressed concern over cases that have been pending for more than three years and directed officers to clear them quickly under proper supervision. He also asked officials to take action against accused persons living abroad by issuing look-out notices and red corner notices. While discussing land fraud cases, the ADG said that such cases should be registered only after proper investigation by senior officers. He also told police not to interfere in civil matters unnecessarily.
Murugesan reviewed the verification drive being carried out in the state. He asked officers to check if any criminals from other States are hiding in Uttarakhand and to use online portals to verify their records. On missing person cases, especially of children, he directed that FIRs should be registered immediately and search operations should begin without delay. He stressed that police should work with sensitivity and increase the recovery rate of missing persons. District officers were asked to review such cases every week and ensure there is no negligence.
