The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) on Saturday organised a felicitation ceremony under its Swachhta Kranti initiative, recognising the contribution of Self-Help Groups (SHGs) in door-to-door user charge collection.

The officials said that the SHGs working across 57 wards collected Rs 1.15 crore between July and December 2025. As an incentive, the corporation distributed 25 per cent of the total collection, Rs 28.89 lakh, among the groups through cheques.

Dehradun mayor Saurabh Thapliyal and municipal commissioner Namami Bansal, along with councillors, distributed the cheques during the event.

Among the top performers, Udaan SHG from Doon Vihar ward secured the first position with Rs 6.58 lakh collection, followed by Katyayani Aajeevika SHG from Nehrugram ward with Rs 6.04 lakh and Muskaan SHG from Ranjhawala ward with Rs 4.92 lakh.

The mayor said that the impact of the initiative is visible on the ground, with door-to-door collection coverage increasing from around 45 per cent, when handled by private firms, to nearly 80 per cent under the current model involving direct municipal supervision and SHG participation. Bansal praised the efforts of SHGs, stating that the initiative has strengthened sanitation services and promoted public participation in the city.
