Stepping up their stir on their longstanding unfulfilled demands, the unemployed nursing graduates have continued their hunger strike under the banner of Nursing Ekta Manch (NEM), which entered its second day on Monday. The protesters have been demonstrating at Ekta Vihar for the past 136 days. They said that they would continue with their hunger strike until their demands are met.
These graduates have been demanding a transparent recruitment process that prioritises candidates based on their year-wise seniority after completing their qualifying examinations, among other issues. Notably, the NEM vice-president Sarita Joshi and its state spokesperson Stuti Sati are participating in the hunger strike.
“We are staring at an uncertain future with the administration ignoring our justified demands. As many of us are reaching the age limit, hunger strike is a desperate step. We will not back down under any circumstances until a concrete decision is made,” said an agitator, now on fast.
