Transport dept issues 12K green cards for Char Dham Yatra

The Transport department of Uttarakhand has issued a total of 12,070 green cards to commercial vehicles for the Char Dham Yatra from March 29 to April 23 this year. The regional transport officer (Enforcement and Road Safety) Dehradun Division, Anita Chamola informed that to ensure the successful and safe conduct of the Char Dham Yatra 2026, the Uttarakhand Transport department recently launched the ‘Green Card System’ for commercial passenger vehicles. This system requires vehicles participating in the Char Dham Yatra to be technically fit and safe. It also verifies vehicle fitness and provides quick access to vehicle information in case of an emergency.
Chamola informed that following this initiative, drivers of commercial vehicles have started obtaining green cards. As of April 23, a total of 12,070 green cards have been issued, comprising 10,848 cards for commercial vehicles from Uttarakhand and 1,222 cards for vehicles from other States. The distribution of green cards according to RTO/ARTO offices includes the Haridwar office, which issued the highest number with 3,609 cards, followed by the Rishikesh office with 3,089 cards. Other figures include 2,472 green cards issued by the Dehradun, 838 by Roorkee, 748 by Rudraprayag, 415 by Kotdwar, 338 by Karnprayag, 109 by Vikasnagar, 100 by Uttarkashi, 84 by Haldwani, 62 by Pauri, 57 by Tankapur, 35 each by Tehri and Ramnagar, 23 by Rudrapur, 22 by Pithoragarh, 15 by Kashipur, 12 by Almora, six by Ranikhet and one by Bageshwar.
Notably, earlier officials said the establishment of a Green Card Centre in the Dehradun Division, which includes offices in Haridwar, Roorkee (Narsan Checkpost starting April 16), Asharodi (Dehradun), Rishikesh, Vikasnagar, Tehri, Uttarkashi and other State offices. Vehicle owners can apply for a green card online by visiting the Transport department’s official website at www.greencard.uk.gov.in and paying the required fee. After a technical inspection of the vehicle at the nearest transport office, a green card will be issued.
