Rains brings relief from sweltering heat in Uttarakhand

Rains on Thursday night and Friday brought much needed relief to the people of Uttarakhand suffering from a long spell of increased atmospheric temperatures. The rain however was accompanied by strong gusty winds and thunderstorms in many parts of the State creating problems for the common people.
In Dehradun and Haridwar trees were uprooted in many areas and the power supplies remain disrupted due to the strong winds which snapped the power lines in many places. The State Meteorological Centre had issued an orange alert for Uttarkashi, Dehradun, Tehri, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar and Pithoragarh districts for Friday.
Mukteshwar received 27.2 millimetres, Thal 18 mm, Dangoli-14 mm, Kosani-8 mm, Dewal 7.5 mm and Rudraprayag 7 mm of rain on Friday. Dehradun recorded a maximum temperature of 33.9 degree Celsius which is two degrees less than the normal. Similarly a minimum temperature of 17.8 degree Celsius was recorded in Dehradun which is four degrees less than the normal.
The centre has issued a yellow alert of rainfall accompanied with lightning and gusty winds (speed 40-50 Kmph) at isolated places in different districts of Uttarakhand on Saturday.
