In the first poll for Nagar Panchayat Pati in Champawat district held on Tuesday, a young female voter Chahat Mouni cast the first vote.
The voting started at all polling stations at 08:00 AM and the voters, from the young to the elderly, queued up to exercise their franchise.
Chahat Mouni, a young voter from Maunkanda, cast the first vote in this election, which the locals called a historic one. “We are casting votes in large numbers, hoping to see development here which has eluded us for long,” said an elderly voter. The polling officials said that long queues of voters are being seen at all the booths since early morning.
The district magistrate Manish Kumar said that the administration has made elaborate security arrangements to ensure free and fair voting. “Things are going on smoothly,” he added.
Mouni said she was proud of being the first voter in the maiden Nagar Panchayat election in Pati. “Each vote will ensure our region’s development. Therefore, all the eligible voters should come out and cast votes. I particularly appeal to the young voters to vote 100 per cent,” she added.
