PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun
A day after a sexual assault case involving minors surfaced, Dehradun Police took a juvenile accused booked under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO)- Act into their custody and sent him to a child reform home. Notably, the alleged incident occurred in the Juna Mahal area of Paltan Bazaar. Police said that they had sent the juvenile to the reform home as per the Juvenile Justice Board order.
Meanwhile, some activists from Hindu organisations had gathered and demonstrated in Juna Mahal and temporarily closed shops in the market on Thursday, demanding stern action.
Police further said that the case had been registered based on a complaint from a woman living in the Kotwali Nagar area. The complaint alleges that her 14 year old daughter had been lured, abducted and sexually abused by the accused. Although the boy had threatened to kill her if she dared disclose the incident, the girl shared her ordeal with her mother on returning home after which she lodged a complaint at the Kotwali city police station. Based on the complaint, a case has been registered under Sections 65(1) and 351(3) of the Indian Penal Code and Sections 3/4 of the POCSO Act and an investigation has been initiated.
The circle officer (CO), Swapnil Kumar said that investigation and other legal proceedings are continuing.
