PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/ Dehradun

In its quest to return to power in 2027 in Uttarakhand, the State Congress has prepared a comprehensive programme to connect with the masses from June 28. In the first phase, the party leaders will cover all the mountainous Assembly constituencies. Interacting with the media persons at Rajiv Bhawan on Saturday, the chairman of the Election Campaign Committee of the State Congress Pritam Singh said that the party has divided the mountainous constituencies of the State in four zones.

He said that in the first zone, the constituencies located in the Pithoragarh, Bageshwar and Champawat districts are included. Singh said that the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Ganesh Godiyal, MLAs Mayukh Mahar, Harish Dhami and Khushal Singh Adhikari will hold programmes in different Assembly constituencies of the zone during the campaign.

The Assembly constituencies located in Pauri, Chamoli and Rudraprayag districts are included in zone 2 which will be headed by chairman of the Election Management Committee Harak Singh Rawat. He will be assisted by Surendra Singh Negi, Shoorvir Singh Sajwan, Lakhpat Singh Butola, Jeetram and Manoj Rawat. The zone 3 will be headed by Pritam Singh and will cover the Assembly constituencies located in Tehri and Uttarkashi districts. He will be assisted by deputy leader of Congress legislature party Bhuwan Kapdi and MLA Vikram Singh Negi.

Zone 4 will include Assembly constituencies of Nainital and Almora districts and will be headed by former PCC president Karan Mahara. He will be assisted by former speaker Govind Singh Kunjwal, Manoj Tiwari, Madan Bisht and Sumit Hridayesh. Pritam Singh said that senior leaders Harish Rawat and leader of opposition Yaspal Arya can participate in programmes in any of the zones. He said that public meetings and protests will be organised in every Assembly constituency. The senior leaders will also undertake contact programmes and attend meetings of the party workers.

PCC president Ganesh Godiyal said that the second phase of the campaign will commence on July 15 and will cover the Assembly constituencies located in Dehradun, Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar districts.

He said that while the people of the State are reeling under the impact of price rise and unemployment the State government is immersed neck deep in corruption. “ Women are not safe in the State and the mining and land mafia are ruling the roost. The only solution is the change of the power in the State,’’ he said.

General secretary Rajendra Shah, Rajendra Bhandari, Naveen Joshi, spokesperson Pratima Singh and Abhinav Thapar accompanied Singh and Godiyal.
