A case of alleged kidnapping and torture has been reported from the Patelnagar area of Dehradun. Police have registered a case against two men after a youth accused them of brutally assaulting him, giving him electric shocks and keeping him captive for several hours. Police said that the incident might have an old rivalry between the complainant and the accused.
As per the police, the complainant, a resident of Jakhan, was walking near Lal Pul at around 8 PM on July 3 when a scooter allegedly driven by Ankur Valmiki hit him. Following the collision, Ankur and his associate, Sahil, allegedly abused and assaulted him. The complainant claimed that the two men had then forcibly taken him to a shop in the Niranjanpur vegetable market, where they beat him, bit him, gave him electric shocks and allegedly burned him with a hot iron rod. He also alleged that the accused had threatened to kill him.
The complainant further said that he had been held captive until around 3 AM before he managed to escape and inform his family. He was later admitted to Government Doon Medical College Hospital, where he is undergoing treatment. Police said teams have been formed to arrest the two accused.
The circle officer (Sadar) Ankit Kandari said that CCTV footage from the area is being examined and eyewitnesses are also being traced. He said that additional legal sections may be added after the medical report is reviewed. The investigation is currently underway.
