The 127 Infantry Battalion (Territorial Army) Ecological, Garhwal Rifles, known as the ‘Garhwal Greeners’, organised a week-long environmental conservation campaign across Uttarakhand during Van Mahotsav Week which concluded on Tuesday. The campaign included tree plantation drives, river rejuvenation projects, water and soil conservation activities, cleanliness drives and public awareness programmes. The aim was to encourage people to protect nature and promote environmental conservation.
The campaign saw active participation from the local administration, the Forest department, educational institutions, voluntary organisations and locals. People were encouraged to not only plant trees but also to nurture them, protect water sources and maintain ecological balance. The battalion said that it remains committed to increasing Uttarakhand’s green cover through plantation and conservation work. According to officials, the battalion has planted more than three crore saplings and helped restore thousands of hectares of forest land over the years.
