The Uttarakhand Police have started the Cybertoon programme, an awareness series on their channel to educate children about online frauds and digital safety. On Thursday, a new episode of the show, named “Chintu Ka Free Gaming Skin” was released to explain how cyber criminals use fake advertisements and fake login pages to steal personal information.
The Special Task Force (STF) senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh said that this is the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre awareness programme for cyber fraud. “This Cybertoon programme connected with lots of people with interest because awareness given by entertainment attracts people,” Singh said.
This is the third episode of the Cybertoon series. The latest episode focuses on Chintu and the Free Gaming Skin scam, teaching children how fraudsters lure them with fake gaming rewards. He said the first episode was based on digital arrest, while the second episode, deepfake, explained the dangers of deep fake scams. The series aims to spread cyber safety awareness in a simple and engaging way.
Through a simple cartoon story, it tells not to panic if they face such situations, as these are common tricks used by cyber criminals and to report them to a trusted adult or the police. Singh said the parents have also been requested to watch the episode with their children and teach them how to stay safe online. He said that the police have uploaded all these episodes on its official social media accounts. People should follow its official social media accounts for regular cyber safety updates. The department reminded citizens that not everything offered for free on the internet is safe.
