Scientific method-based animal husbandry to boost economy: experts

Selecting the right breed and proper nutrition are essential for enhanced milk production, said the senior professor at GB Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, S K Singh at the Seva Pakhwada programme organised in Basantipur under the auspices of the Uttarakhand Biotechnology Council (Biotech department), Pantnagar on Wednesday.
Notably, under the direction of director of the Biotech department, Sanjay Kumar, a programme titled ‘Jan Jan Ki Sarkar, Jan Jan Ke Dwar’ was held in Basantipur village, Dineshpur.
Singh provided livestock farmers with technical information on animal housing, disease prevention, breed selection and balanced diets. He highlighted the importance of artificial insemination while stressing on selecting the right breed and proper nutrition for high milk production. He described scientific animal husbandry as an excellent means of increasing the economy.
The programme coordinator and scientist from the Biotech department, Manindra Mohan Sharma raised awareness about timely vaccinations and encouraged scientific animal husbandry practices, including providing clean water to animals.
The veterinary doctor, Dr Anshu Singh explained ways to protect animals from insects and parasites. Mineral mixtures, tubs and other medicines were distributed to participating livestock farmers.
