A 21-year-old man, who had gone missing from Nehru Colony, was found dead in a gorge near Kimadi on Mussoorie Road on Wednesday. The body was recovered during a search operation carried out by the police and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) personnel.
The circle officer (CO) City, Nitin Lohani said that the deceased was identified as Sumit Pal. His body was found in an advanced state of decomposition, with insect infestation, and it had been partially eaten by wild animals. He said that the body had been sent to the civil hospital mortuary for post-mortem examination.
According to the police, Rajesh Pal, a resident of Durgapuram in Mothrowala, filed a missing complaint on July 9 after his son, Sumit, had left home on July 8 without informing anyone. A missing person case was registered at Nehru Colony police station and a police team started searching for him.
During the investigation, police checked CCTV footage from the area. They found footage showing Sumit riding his black motorcycle towards Kimadi on July 8. The motorcycle was later found parked on the roadside near Mackenzie House and Cafe on the Mussoorie-Kimadi road. The SDRF team recovered the body from a deep gorge below the roadside barrier. The body was later identified by Sumit’s family members.
A forensic team examined the spot and recorded photographs and videos. Police said further investigation is underway to find out the exact cause of his death.
