Taking strict on the religious conversions, committed to tribal development: CM

Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has said that a strict anti-conversion law has been implemented to prevent religious conversions in Uttarakhand and the State government is taking strict action on those engaged in the religious conversions. He was addressing a Tharu Tribal Dialogue programme at Khatima on Saturday.
He said that both the Union and the State governments are holding joint campaigns against drug abuse. Dhami emphasised on launching a comprehensive public awareness campaign against the drug abuse in the State.
Terming the dialogue as a means to strengthen the trust between the government and the Tharu community, the CM said that his connection with the community is very old. Dhami said that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, unprecedented work has been done for the empowerment of tribal society for the first time since independence. The fact that the country’s President, Droupadi Murmu, is from the tribal community is the biggest example of this thinking.
The CM said that the government is empowering the tribal community by connecting them with education, health, employment and basic amenities.
He said that the State government has made the income limit reasonable under the Atal Housing Scheme and has also increased the cost of house construction so that more and more families can benefit from it. Dhami claimed that the government has provided assistance of more than Rs three crore under this scheme in Udham Singh Nagar.
He said that under the Pradhan Mantri Janman Awas Yojana, 824 houses were constructed in the first phase and 101 houses in the second phase in US Nagar district. He said that through the Tribal Welfare Department, crores of rupees have been allocated for the development of Ashram Vidyalayas, hostels and ITI in the tribal areas.
The CM informed that a 100-bed boys’ hostel is also being built in Gadarpur and the Tharu Government Inter College is being renovated and upgraded with a sum of Rs two crore.
“The double-engine government is committed to ensuring that every family in the Tharu community joins the mainstream of development, every youth becomes self-reliant and every daughter becomes educated and empowered,’’ he said.
Dhami also felicitated Everest conquerors Mohan Singh Rana (BSF) and Tila Sen (ITBP) during the event.
