The Dehradun district administration has warned government departments to improve revenue collection and meet their annual targets. In a meeting of the district level revenue augmentation and monitoring committee on Saturday, Dehradun district magistrate Ashish Chauhan said that negligence in revenue collection will not be tolerated.
The district administration found that the Uttarakhand Jal Sansthan, Transport, Irrigation, Forest and Registration departments were behind their revenue targets. Chauhan directed departments that are lagging behind to prepare immediate action plans and said that the progress of every department will now be reviewed every month. He also warned that the officials concerned will be held accountable if they fail to achieve their targets.
The Irrigation department officials said that the department had so far collected Rs 20.04 lakh against its annual target of Rs one crore by the end of June. The Registration department reported revenue of Rs 380 crore against its annual target of Rs 1,450 crore.
The Mining department achieved its June target by collecting Rs 8.06 crore against a target of Rs eight crore. It also recovered Rs 12.67 lakh after imposing penalties in cases of illegal mining and transportation. The Excise department collected Rs 128 crore against its annual target of Rs 667.60 crore, while the State Tax department collected Rs 1,142.36 crore against a target of Rs 4,563.74 crore. The Transport department said that it had collected Rs 59.06 crore by June, which is 1.67 per cent higher than the same period last year, though no annual target has been fixed for it.
The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun collected Rs 24.37 crore against its target of Rs 75 crore, while the Municipal Corporation of Rishikesh collected Rs 1.70 crore against its target of Rs 12.47 crore. The Forest department reported revenue of Rs 17.22 crore against its target of Rs 63.63 crore.
