CEO asks BLOs to dispose of notices on account of general discrepancies

The State’s Chief Electoral officer BVRC Purushottam has directed the booth level officers (BLOs) to dispose of the notices issued to the voters on account of general discrepancies at their own level during the ongoing process of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls. This will ensure that the general public do not face any inconvenience, he said. 

 The CEO gave the direction while conducting an inspection of the polling stations in various assembly constituencies of Dehradun district on Tuesday.

He said that in the cases of general discrepancies, the BLOs should take the documents from the voters and verify them on the spot. Purushottam said that special attention should be paid to voters whose mapping has not been completed and action should be taken as per the rules by conducting a hearing at the ERO/AERO level. 

In the visit, the CEO got hands-on experience of the process of hearing of notices under the SIR. He also took feedback from voters at the polling stations. 

The CEO said that the purpose of this field visit is to understand the practical problems being faced on the ground. He informed that all divisional commissioners, district magistrates and electoral registration officers (ERO) have been instructed to conduct field visits across the State.

Pertinently, the CEO had conducted an inspection of polling stations in Haridwar on Monday. 

The chief development officer, Dehradun Abhinav Shah, ERO Raipur Apoorva Singh, ERO Rajpur Tanveer Marwah and assistant district election officer Narendra Deoli accompanied the CEO.
