The Deen Dayal Upadhyay District Hospital administration has decided to rotate the duties of the nursing staff within the hospital premises following the recent alleged lapse in patient safety at the hospital.
Principal medical superintendent Dr Yatendra Singh said directions in this regard have been given to the hospital matron.
He said recently an incident was highlighted in which it was alleged that hospital staff attempted to administer an expired injection to a patient. Before the injection could be administered, the patient refused to take it. In this regard, a six-member committee has been constituted at the hospital level to probe the incident. Singh said the committee is currently investigating the matter and its report is expected by Saturday. Action will be taken based on the findings of the report, he said.
He further informed that in view of the incident, some changes have also been made regarding nursing duties. He said that due to permanent posting in a particular ward, nursing staff sometimes become overconfident, which can lead to negligence.
To prevent such incidents, the matron has been directed that all nursing staff will now perform duty on a rotation basis. This means nursing duties will be rotated across specific wards so that such negligence does not occur, he said.
