The District Legal Service Authority and the Dehradun administration organised a cleanliness drive in Dehradun on Saturday. The Dehradun district magistrate Ashish Chauhan joined the campaign and more than 100 people took part in the drive. The campaign was held in the Lakshman Chowk and Kanwali Road areas
The DM directed officials to ensure regular cleaning in the areas. He said garbage should be collected on time and disposed of properly. He also said that cleaning only during special drives was not enough. Regular monitoring should be done to keep the areas clean.
“The administrative efforts alone were not enough to build a clean and beautiful city. Active participation of the public was equally important,” he said. He appealed to citizens to keep their homes, shops and surrounding areas clean, dispose of waste only at designated places and avoid littering in public areas. He said that the city’s cleanliness system could be made permanent and effective only with the cooperation of citizens.
The DM also directed officials to take effective action and conduct awareness campaigns to discourage the use of single-use plastic. “People should be made aware of the harmful effects of single-use plastic and efforts should be made to discourage its use with the participation of concerned departments and organisations,” Chauhan said. Continuous campaigns would be conducted in this direction.
DLSA secretary Seema Dungarkoti also participated in the drive. She said cleanliness should become part of people’s daily lives and their responsibility. She appealed to residents to keep their surroundings clean.
