Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami assured a delegation of the Medical Lab Technologists Association that necessary action would be taken soon regarding their four-point demands. Recently, amid ongoing protests by unemployed, degree-holding medical lab technicians, a significant development occurred. After two marches to the Chief Minister’s residence and a prolonged struggle, a delegation of unemployed medical lab technicians met with the CM.
Informing about this, the members of the association informed that during the meeting, the delegation presented their four-point demands. They expressed that for the past 26 years, degree-holding lab technicians have struggled to find employment, leaving many young individuals unemployed due to a lack of regular recruitment and the creation of lab technician positions within the government health system.
The members informed that they highlighted their main demands, which include the creation of lab technician posts as per Indian Public Health Standards (IPHS), the preparation of Lab Technician Service Rules, recruitment based on year-wise merit, a one-time relaxation of the age limit for candidates awaiting recruitment for an extended period, and the cessation of the privatisation process of government labs. They noted that the CM listened seriously to their concerns and assured them that action would be taken on their four-point demands soon.
The members of the association believed that the meeting with the CM was a crucial step in their movement. Unemployed medical lab technicians now remain hopeful that the government will implement the assurances given to them.
The association emphasised that their struggle will continue until a concrete and positive decision is reached regarding the demands that have been pending for years.
Pertinently, in light of their longstanding demands, many lab technicians under the association’s banner have been staging protests for a long time.
