Governor lieutenant general (retd) Gurmit Singh said that every citizen should consider his or her contribution to nation building, national security, unity, integrity and social harmony. He said this after hoisting the national flag at Lok Bhawan on Independence Day on Saturday.

Paying homage to freedom fighters and martyrs, he also paid his respects to soldiers guarding the nation’s borders in difficult terrain and conditions. “Independence Day is not just an occasion to celebrate but also a day to reiterate one’s commitments to the nation. Every citizen must consider his or her contribution in nation building, national security, unity, integrity and social harmony. We must work consistently in the interests of the country with the sense of ‘nation first’ and ‘nation supreme’. Viksit Bharat by 2047, a self-reliant nation and Vishwaguru Bharat are the nation’s collective resolve. The active role of every citizen is vital in achieving this. The commitment for addiction-free youth should also be turned into a campaign involving every person. The active role of every person, family, society and especially youth is important in this campaign,” he said.

Singh also praised the women and youth of the State for their achievements. About three lakh women are moving towards self-reliance by becoming Lakhpati Didis. The youth too are setting records in enterprise and other sectors, he said.

The governor also stressed on adoption of artificial intelligence, modern technology and innovation to meet the challenges of the 21st century. He expressed confidence that Uttarakhand will progress swiftly in these spheres to position itself among the nation’s leading States.
