Nation belongs to 145 crore Indians, not just politicians and those in power: Ramdev

The nation belongs to 145 crore Indians and not just a few political parties, the Patanjali Yogpeeth head Swami Ramdev said at the 80th Independence Day programme held here on Saturday. Stating that lakhs of courageous men and women had sacrificed their lives to make the nation independent, he said that it is the responsibility of every citizen to work towards making India the best economic, spiritual and political superpower.
“The nation belongs to 145 crore Indians, not just a few political parties, those in power, the PM, CM, MPs and MLAs. The rights and responsibilities of the citizens are as high as those of the President and Prime Minister. This is called independence- a right which our constitution provides. All citizens should observe the nation’s constitutional, democratic, human and spiritual values and ensure that their conduct makes Indians the best citizens in the world. We should work to make our currency, economy, education and medical systems the best in the world. The lifestyle and character of Indians should become a model for the world,” he said.
Stating that the atmosphere of hatred being spread from the roads to the parliament is unfortunate, he said that those who hate each other on political or caste lines should do better. “Gen-Z too should not fight among itself or turn into those spreading anarchy on the roads. We should fight for our rights while also fulfilling our responsibilities while considering our democratic, constitutional and human values,” he added.
Speaking on the occasion, Acharya Balkrishna said that though all remember their rights, they tend to forget their responsibilities. “Those in favour and those in opposition will continue to clash till we improve our education, medical, cultural and other systems with corruption, misconduct and other such undesirable aspects continuing. Addressing this is needed to ensure mutual respect and remove the hurdles to making the nation prosperous. Bharat will become the Vishwaguru soon if we all fulfil our responsibilities properly,” he said.
