Devotees from various parts of India and abroad paid obeisance at the samadhi of Guru Ram Rai in Darbar Sahib in Dehradun to mark his 340th Mahanirvan Parv on Saturday. On this occasion, the head of Darbar Sahib, Mahant Devendra Das performed special prayers and rituals. Addressing the Sangat, he highlighted the importance of Guru Bhakti and Guru Kripa and said that the Guru is the manifest form of the Supreme Divine. “Without the Guru, the spiritual journey remains incomplete, and it is through the Guru’s grace that a disciple’s life becomes meaningful and blessed,” he observed.
For the convenience and service of the devotees, a medical team from Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital was deployed at the venue.
Notably, Guru Ram Rai was born in 1646 CE on the fifth day of the month of Chaitra and arrived in Dehradun in 1676 CE. It is believed that the city came to be known as Dehradun after his dera, meaning camp.
