PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun
The debate over Mussoorie’s carrying capacity has reached the High Court, which has now directed the State’s chief secretary to take a decision within nine months on a representation submitted by Citizens for Green Doon (CFGD) and activist Anoop Nautiyal. The CFGD members welcomed the decision.
The representation has raised concerns over the impact of multiple new infrastructure projects on Mussoorie and its fragile surrounding ecosystem, including proposed road expansion in Kimadi area on Doon-Mussoorie route.
CFGD said that it had welcomed the court’s direction as an important first step towards addressing cumulative pressures of unplanned infrastructure and development in the region.
A senior functionary of the outfit said that there is much work ahead and CFGD would continue to follow up on the matter to ensure that the ecological carrying capacity of Mussoorie is duly considered in future development decisions.
