Reacting sharply to the statement of Samajwadi Party president, Akhilesh Yadav in which he described the people of Uttarakhand origin as intruders, chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has said that the SP supremo should publicly apologise for insulting the people of Uttarakhand.

In a statement, the CM said that Uttarakhand is both Devbhoomi and Veerbhoomi and this sacred land has given the country saints, soldiers and many great personalities dedicated to the service of the nation.  He added that insulting the people of the State is unacceptable.

“The people of Uttarakhand have not forgotten that during Mulayam Singh Yadav’s tenure as the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, protesters demanding a separate State of Uttarakhand were fired upon at Rampur Tiraha, Mussoorie and Khatima. Today, son of Mulayam Singh Yadav is terming the people of Uttarakhand infiltrators. This is an insult to the State’s struggle, sacrifice and self-respect,’’ he said.

The CM said that since Congress party is an ally of SP in Uttar Pradesh, its leaders should clarify their position and inform the people of Uttarakhand whether they support the SP leader’s statement or not.
