In solidarity with the families displaced by the Puchhdi demolition drive, the Uttarakhand Parivartan Party (UPP) has announced on Monday an intensification of its protests against the state government. Presided over by UPPA central president and statehood activist Prabhat Dhyani, the meeting witnessed strong criticism of the demolition drive carried out on October 31.
Speakers alleged that residents had not been given adequate time to vacate their homes and were unable to salvage their belongings. School bags and books belonging to several children were also buried under the debris, they said.
The party also demanded ownership rights for people who have been residing on Nazul and forest land for years.
Dhyani warned that escalating opposition would bring protests to the streets and accountability to the polls.
