U’khand Congress extends support to Bharat Bandh

Pritam asks party cadres to support agitating farmers

The Uttarakhand Congress has decided to throw its full weight behind the agitating farmers as it today announced support for the Dec 8 Bharat Bandh call given by them.

The farmers are demanding repeal of three farm laws enacted by the central government. The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Pritam Singh held discussions with all the senior leaders of the party on Sunday and then decided to support the Bandh call. He also directed all the district presidents, office bearers and the frontal organizations of the party to actively participate and support the Bandh.

Vice president of Uttarakhand Congress, Surya Kant Dhasmana said that the PCC president held telephonic discussions with the general secretary of All India Congress Committee (AICC) and former Chief Minister (CM) Harish Rawat, Leader of Opposition (LoP) in state assembly Indira Hridayesh, former PCC president Kishore Upadhyaya, deputy leader of Congress Legislature party, Karan Mahra following which it was unanimously decided to support the farmers call for Bharat Bandh. Dhasmana said that the in assembly elections of 2017, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi had assured that loans of farmers would be waived off as double engine government has been formed in Uttarakhand. “But the loans of farmers have not been waived off even after four years and the farmers are forced to commit suicide due to financial burden”, he observed.
