Hearing on a public interest litigation against indiscriminate constructions in the hills between Dehradun and Mussoorie, the Uttarakhand high court has directed the Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) vice chairman and Dehradun municipal commissioner to seal the unauthorised constructions and submit a detailed report in the court by May 27. The matter was taken up for hearing by the division bench of chief justice RS Chauhan and justice Alok Kumar Verma which has scheduled the matter for hearing next on May 27.
During the hearing on Wednesday, the petitioner, Dehradun resident Reenu Paul’s counsel explained with photographs how the small hills between Dehradun and Mussoorie were being cut and illegal constructions are being undertaken blatantly on such sites. According to the petitioner, the Uttarakhand construction policy 2015 states that permission will not be granted for construction on land with more than 30 degree gradient. However, this provision is being violated and buildings are being constructed blatantly on sites where construction is not allowed.
