Saturday, 29 May 2021 | PNS | Dehradun
Young members of Doon Volunteers in Dehradun are trying to help as many villages as they can amidst conditions affected by the Covid pandemic. The group has been providing assistance to patients and the needy over the past 10 days in the remote areas of the state.
They have set up verified channels on the ground that report the real situation to them and help them to distribute the aid directly to the people in need. They are providing medical supplies to the villagers and are also trying to create awareness among villagers about Covid-19 prescriptions in three languages Hindi, Garhwali and Kumaoni.
Talking about this initiative a group member Himalaya Ramola said, “When there was chaos and feeling of helplessness in Dehradun, we as individuals helped as many as we could but soon when the situation became stable in the city and worse in the villages we decided to ramp up our efforts with a greater force to the manifold problems of the villagers. As we came back from Uttarkashi after a visit we realised that one type of medical kit was not a good idea so after changing that we made three kits first is for PHCs and CHCs containing prescribed medicines that can help them as a support system. Second kits are for ASHA workers which contain gloves, masks and multivitamin tablets to help them while they do their job as these were not reaching them from the system and the third kit is the supplement kit which is distributed by ASHA workers among villagers. Apart from this, we are always available to people in need to provide the aid they want.”
As per the information provided by Doon Volunteers till now they have distributed sixty oxymeters, sixty thermometers and 600 packets each containing 10 days of prescribed medicine in the villages of Uttarkashi district. Besides this they are fulfilling some hospitals requirement too. Now they are moving towards Chamoli and Rudraprayag districts for personal verification of the availability of resources.
They are also raising funds for Covid relief work through impactguru.com apart from which there are many individual donations while various associations have also come forward to support this initiative.
