Rain damage continues- 83 roads blocked in state

Widespread infrastructural damage was caused in various parts of the state following heavy rains on Thursday night and Friday. A total of 83 roads were reported blocked in different parts of the state on Friday. In Dehradun, two portions of the Ranipokhri bridge bridge collapsed. The national highway 707 is blocked at the 177 kilometre mark while NH 123 Herbertpur-Badkot is blocked at kilometres 21, 28 and 31. One state highway, one other district road and 20 rural motor roads are blocked in Dehradun district. While the national highways to Gangotri and Badrinath were blocked in Tehri district, a portion of the all-weather road was also washed away near Fakot. Three rural motor roads are blocked in Uttarkashi district while in Chamoli district the Joshimath-Malari state highway and six rural motor roads are blocked. While one rural motor road is blocked in Rudraprayag district, two main district roads and 13 rural motor roads are blocked in Pauri district. Three rural motor roads are blocked in Bageshwar district while two rural motor roads are blocked in Nainital district. The Tanakpur- Champawat NH 9 is blocked at Swala and three rural motor roads are blocked in Champawat district while five border roads, two state motor roads and 14 rural motor roads are blocked in Pithoragarh district. Meanwhile, the weather forecast for Saturday is possibility of rain with intense spells at isolated places in Nainital, Champawat, Bageshwar and Pithoragarh districts. Efforts are underway to reopen the blocked roads for traffic.
