Demanding immediate dissolution of the Char Dham Devasthanam Management Board, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has said that the Teerth Purohits are finding themselves cheated after the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Uttarakhand unit of the party has threatened to launch a statewide agitation if the board is not dissolved.
The vice president of AAP, Amit Joshi said that on one hand the chief minister is misleading the Teerth Purohits by assuring to solve their issue and on other PM Modi has maintained a stoic silence on the Devasthanam board which has resulted in creation of a situation wherein the Teerth Purohits are finding themselves cheated. Launching a blistering attack on the former CM Trivendra Singh Rawat for his recent statement in which he had termed Teerth Purohits as selfish; Joshi said that the former CM has insulted the Teerth Purohits. He said that the Purohits have been protecting the culture of the Char Dhams for hundreds of years but the former CM has insulted them and the party strongly condemns it. He said that the former CM had created a sin by setting up the Devasthanam board and due to this he had to face the ire of the Teerth Purohis who protested when Trivendra went to Kedarnath. The AAP leader said that at a time when the demand for dissolution of the Devasthanam Board is gathering momentum, Trivendra is insulting the Teerth Purohits. He demanded that the former CM should apologise for his statement and the BJP government should dissolve the Devasthanam Board without any more delay failing which a state-wide agitation would be launched by the AAP.
Criticising PM Modi for making circumambulation of the Kedarnath temple while wearing shoes and allowing the live telecast of his prayers from the sanctum sanctorum, Joshi said that the PM has violated the centuries old tradition during his visit.
