HC issues notice to DM & MDDA secretary regarding encroachments threatening Rispana & Bindal

Thursday, 23 December 2021 | PNS | Nainital

The Uttarakhand high court has served a notice to the Dehradun district magistrate and the Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) secretary and sought their response within four weeks while hearing on a public interest litigation regarding encroachments on the Rispana and Bindal rivers in Dehradun. The bench of chief justice RS Chauhan and justice NS Dhanik also directed the district magistrate to personally survey the point of origin of the Bindal river and declare the flood zone there.

It is pertinent to mention here that Dehradun resident Renu Paul had filed a PIL stating that indiscriminate encroachment and illegal constructions in the Rajpur area of Dehradun where the Rispana and Bindal rivers originate was posing a threat to these rivers. The petitioner has submitted photographs and satellite images to show the encroachments clearly visible in the said area.
