In view of increasing cyber frauds in many parts of the state, the Special Task Force (STF) has appealed to the citizens to keep in mind the new helpline number 1930 for registering complaints related to cyber crime. The Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) of Cyber Crime, STF, Ankush Mishra informed that the Union ministry of Home Affairs has recently changed the helpline number from 155260 to 1930 for immediate registration of complaints against cyber crimes. He informed that Uttarakhand is the third state in the country to connect with the helpline number.
He said that the helpline number was first launched in the state on June 17 last year and so far, a total of 4,827 complaints have been registered while the authorities have prevented cyber fraud of about Rs 1.77 crore. It has immensely helped the authorities concerned in catching the culprits and preventing several cyber frauds. He appealed to the citizens to keep in mind the new helpline number and share it among their friends and families too to make it easier for them to approach authorities if required.
In order to avoid cyber fraud, the DSP also advised people to be cautious during online shopping and transactions. He said that a customer should buy required items and goods only from the authorised websites rather than clicking on some random website links in search engines. He also said that one should also avoid transferring money, sharing personal information and important data through online trading sites in the temptation of earning quick money, double money or winning lotteries and prizes. Before considering any kind of online trading, make sure to get the complete information about the said site and check it thoroughly with the local bank and the associated company or other firms, added Mishra. He said that in case of any doubt or issue, people must immediately contact the nearest police station or cyber crime police station or simply dial the new helpline number 1930.
