Forest Research Institute (FRI) director Renu Singh said that industry-farmers-researchers are the three important pillars in growth of wood based industry. She also emphasised on developing a roadmap so that issues can be addressed and solved efficiently by each of the pillars. She further added that limited funding and lack of experimental areas are main bottlenecks to progress in forestry research and industries can help in mitigating both. She said this while speaking at a research outreach programme for wood based industry of Uttar Pradesh held at the institute on Friday.
Indian Industries Association (IIA) president Ashok Kumar Agarwal opined that the research work of FRI is helping both industries and farmers. He expressed interest in collaborating with scientists and starting a help centre through IIA that could disseminate the knowledge and address different issues of industries and farmers. This help centre could act as a link between wood and wood based industries, growers as well as researchers, he said. Wood industrialists and IIA Muzaffarnagar head Anuj Garg along with IIA Saharanpur head Pramod Sadana requested FRI’s help in small timber product and handicraft industries which have an export market of Rs 100 billion. Institute scientists showed new varieties of various trees to the participants on the occasion.
