About 23,734 police personnel vote through postal ballot and EDC

The additional director general of police (Crime, Law and Order) AP Anshuman said that about 23,734 police personnel have cast their vote through postal ballot and Election Duty Certificate (EDC) in the Lok Sabha election in the State. Out of 23,734 personnel, 16,438 personnel cast their vote through postal ballot and 7,296 through EDC. On polling day on Friday, 673 personnel will cast their vote by visiting polling booths. He said that as part of preventive action, the police identified 809 sensitive areas across the State and identified 3,907 people living there that could potentially influence the elections. The police took action against them under the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC). Besides this, a total of 6,567 cases were also registered under the CrPC out of which, the police challaned a total of 39,946 anti-social elements and banned 33,013 persons from respective areas. The ADG said that a total of 11,729 polling stations are established in the five Lok Sabha constituencies that have been divided into 274 zones and 1,462 sectors. The police have deployed 293 Flying Squad Teams (FSTs) and 252 Static Surveillance Teams (SSTs) to monitor the polling stations. Out of 11,729 polling stations, the police have put 934 polling stations in the critical booths category. The police will keep a vigilant eye on them using webcasting and videography on the polling day. Besides this, the forces will continue to keep strict security arrangements at all inter-district and inter-state barriers besides the international border areas. The ADG also held a meeting with all the senior officials of the State to ensure the safe conduct of the LS elections on Friday.
