Accused nabbed within 24 hours of killing forest worker in Haldwani

Acting swiftly in the gruesome case in which a contract forest worker had murdered a co-worker after a drunken argument, the Nainital district police arrested the accused within 24 hours of the case coming to light.
The incident occurred in the Peepalpadao forest area of Tanda in Haldwani where the body of Meva Lal (50), a plantation watcher working on contract with the Forest department was found on May 23. Following the incident, the Nainital senior superintendent of police Manjunath TC directed police officials to take necessary steps to crack the case. A forensic team was sent to the crime scene to collect evidence while the police investigated the case.
Haldwani superintendent of police (City) Manoj Katyal informed that during preliminary investigation, the role of watchman Tiwari Singh (45) came under suspicion. The police questioned Singh further and he said that he and Lal had consumed liquor together before getting into a heated argument. The accused confessed that he was carried away by his anger and assaulted Lal repeatedly with an axe. The police have recovered the axe used in the crime. A case has been registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita in the Haldwani Kotwali.
