PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/DEHRADUN

With the onset of winter, the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) has strengthened arrangements at the Rain Baseras to provide relief to homeless persons and daily wage labourers during the night.

Officials claimed that all the Rain Baseras are functioning properly and are being further improved as per the directions of the municipal commissioner Namami Bansal.  At present, Rain Baseras are operational at several locations in Dehradun. The Lal Pul shelter has a capacity of 52 beds, the Transport Nagar shelter has 20 beds, the one in Chunnabhatta has 15 beds, while the shelter near Clock Tower has 100 beds. Officials said that blankets are provided to all occupants during the winter season, and bonfires are being arranged at key locations, including Lal Pul, Transport Nagar and Chunnabhatta.

Municipal officials claimed that daily inspections are being carried out to check the facilities in the night shelters with reports being submitted daily to the

District Disaster Management office. According to official data, on Monday night, nine people stayed at the Chunnabhatta shelter, 14 at Transport Nagar, and around five to six people at the Lal Pul shelter. They are expecting more people in peak time in January. Considering this, the authorities are enhancing the facilities.
