The Additional Director General of Police (Crime, Law and Order) AP Anshuman on Tuesday directed all district in-charges of all sections of the Uttarakhand police to take preventive measures to ensure that incidents like the attack on the police team in Mussoorie do not happen again. This incident occurred when the police were searching for a man on Saturday night. The man had allegedly killed his father in Haryana and shot his wife in the head in Dehradun. When the police found him in a home stay in Mussoorie and went to nab him, the accused shot a sub inspector Mithun Kumar in the stomach.
Stating that the incident occurred due to negligence by sub inspectors Jaiveer Singh and Sunil Negi of Mayur Vihar Chowki and Balawala Chowki respectively, the Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh suspended both on Monday. The ADG said about the incident that the officials concerned knew that if the accused had possibly killed his father and shot the wife, he might be in possession of a weapon but the team still proceeded unprepared. They should have taken necessary precautions before approaching the accused. Their delayed timing of responding after the SI was shot also shows incompetence on their part.
A committee has been formed to investigate the matter and the police will take appropriate action accordingly across the State to ensure such incidents do not happen again, he added. On Tuesday, Anshuman also reviewed such cases that occurred across the State. He said that about 27 incidents of firing on police occurred in the past three years in which five policemen sustained injuries. All officials concerned of respective districts have been instructed to keep necessary equipment like bulletproof jackets, weapons, bullets and protective gear in sufficient quantity in the police line, he said.
The team sent to conduct the raid should be thoroughly briefed based on the criminal history of the wanted criminal and only skilled and efficient personnel should be included in such a team. The leading officials should stay vigilant regarding being attacked by the accused and the other team members should also be fully prepared to support them. The department will take strict action against the personnel concerned if any official is found guilty of negligence, the ADG added.
