Administration seizes bank property in Doon after widow alleges harassment

PIONEEREDGE NEWS SERVICE | Dehradun

Despite the loan being insured after her husband’s death, widow Mala, mother of two, allegedly faced harassment from Can Fin Homes Limited bank, GMS road branch, Dehradun.

Considering this, the Dehradun district administration seized the company’s property and scheduled it for auction on August 23, the Dehradun district magistrate Savin Bansal said. He informed that Mala’s husband, late Uday Shankar, had taken a housing loan of Rs 20 lakh from Can Fin Homes Limited and insurance was secured for the loan. He had already deposited Rs 12.22 lakh before his death on January 20, 2025.

After his death, Mala alleged that both the bank and the insurance company failed to act despite having all loan documents and continued to harass her, disrupting her children’s education. Acting on her complaint, Bansal issued a recovery certificate of Rs 22 lakh against the manager of Can Fin Homes Limited and ordered the attachment of the bank’s property.

The auction will take place on August 23, as per DM. He stated that strict measures will continue against banks that deny insured dependents their rights.
